Hey health champions! Let's take a quick tour of some lifestyle improvements. Maxwell and his students began analyzing various health interventions in February 2023. They categorized them into BRAVO areas, a Dutch term for lifestyle factors such as exercise, smoking, drinking, nutrition and stress.

Their research shows that most interventions focus on physical activity, mental health and nutrition. Fewer interventions focus on alcohol/drug use and smoking. Although they mostly use interview data, future interventions could use wearable sensors for personalized, effective programs.

Meanwhile, Maxwell visited our Health Living partners and found seven unique lifestyle interventions:

Coaching on lifestyle: A two-year program of VitaalNed & De Leefstijlstraat Emmen that helps people who are overweight 1.

Sprint GLI: A 10-week program by VitaalNed for vulnerable groups in Groningen 2.

Foundation Leefstijlstraat: The fully customized program of The Leefstijlstraat Emmen for health enthusiasts 3.

Diavantis Diabetes: A 15-month program run by the Friends of Diavantis Foundation for people at risk for Type 2 Diabetes 4.

Healthy@Work: University Medical Center Groningen's flexible program for its employees 5.

Sleep In Sync: Chrono@Work's smartwatch app in development to regulate sleep patterns 6.

7. DeMaar: A program under development that helps manage stress through heart rate variability.

The focus is on personalization, with individual sessions for lifestyle changes and group sessions for sharing knowledge about healthy living. Keep following us for more exciting health updates!

A quick tour of lifestyle interventions - BRAVO!

Since February 2023, WP5 PhD student Maxwell and his team analyzed health interventions targeting BRAVO areas (exercise, smoking, drinking, nutrition, stress). Physical activity, mental health and nutrition received particular attention, while interventions for alcohol/drug use and smoking were scarcer. Future programs could use wearable sensors for personalized approaches. They discovered seven unique lifestyle interventions, ranging from lifestyle coaching to sleep pattern regulation. Healthy Living as a Service at European Night of Researchers

At the European Night of Researchers on Sept. 29, the Healthy Living as a Service project presented innovative wearables. The Fit Tech Box allowed participants to experience the impact of unhealthy habits and showed how health watches can help change behavior. Visitors discovered wearables' insights on health and lifestyle, while conversations with experienced users provided valuable input for the project. In Agustín Martinez's Art & Technology lab, visitors creatively used wearables to manipulate sounds and visual elements. A successful experience for the project!
